Top 10 Hens Party Ideas
we enlisted one of our fave friends sam from desilva lining events to give us a low down on her top 10 hens party ideas, and of course she can assist you in making all of these happen.
Now that the weather is warming up, people seem to be getting out and about more! This is the perfect time of year to plan and host a hens; with glorious weather!
Hen’s Parties have really started to move away from the ‘old school’ strippers and getting wasted – we’re wanting to spend more time with our girlfriends and take gorgeous photos of the day (hello insta followers!) and make it a day that we want to remember, and have a giggle over when we re-tell the story.
Here’s a list of my personal fave top 10 hens ideas…
10. Spa Day
Who doesn’t love a good pamper session?! Especially before
the big day, it’s a great way to relax and feel refreshed before coming back to
the world of ‘the big day’.
I’m a big fan of getting out of town, and actually escaping
when I go to spas. Mornington Peninsula Hot Springs? Hepburn Bath House? Sign
me up please. But, be sure to book ahead online, and you can save a bundle.
Also look into Air BnBs in the area for a much more homely feel for your pre-
wedding escape with the gals.
9. Yoga Retreat
‘Namas-cray; the crazy in me, sees the crazy in you’. We all
know that coming up to the big day can be highly stressful and you can feel
like you’re under a lot of pressure. A great way to relieve that mental stress
is to take time for yourself. Being whisked away for a day, where you’re
nurtured and looked after, and leave feeling revived and fresh and much more
centred might be just what you need.
In partnership with Happy Being Yoga, we’ve put together the
ultimate pre-wedding chillout session. You can either do a full day, or a half
day workshop, and leave with full tummies, clear minds and happy hearts. Head
over to our website to find out more…
8. Mini Makeover
Coming into summer, our skin changes, but our features stay
the same! Why not book you and the gals into a workshop, where you get to learn
about what colours suit your face, what shape your face is, your eyes are, your
lips are, and to best apply makeup, for every day wear?
This is a fab way to head you into, let’s face it, a very
busy time of year with weddings, Christmas parties, engagements, birthdays,
hens days… the social events go on and on!
My gal Emma from @emalycemakeup has got you covered on this
front. She can even do your makeup for the big day!
7. Flower Crowns
Where to start with the beautiful blooms… Why, on your head
of course!
Flower crowns are so on trend at the moment, all you need to
do is take a quick scroll through insta (especially my feed…) and you’ll see
stunning brides and hens wearing beautiful blooms, or foliage *swoon*.
Now, I know nothing about flowers – I mean, I know the
basics, but please don’t ask me to tell you the difference between one rose and
another! But I love this fashion. Flower crowns are so personal, and when you
get to make your own, what a sense of accomplishment! You can also add elements
of jewels or sparkly things to them as well (yes please!), which make your
crown even more special!
Check out The High Tea Mistress' Flower Crown Workshops that you can add onto your high tea package or book as a stand alone activity.
Or, if you just want to buy the gals one to wear for the
day, or for the wedding, you can check out our amazing friends at
Floral Events Melbourne
6. The Winery Tour
There are soooooo many wine tour companies, and a lot don’t
take hens parties – they’re known to be pretty rowdy and usually decked out in
penis headbands and sashes for who’s the next victim!
This is where we can shake up that idea! The Yarra Valley
and Mornington Peninsula are the two closest wine regions to Melbourne. Both
are about an hour away from the city – but some companies (like mine!) offer
local pickup. A day amongst the vines is all about gaining a little bit of
knowledge of the wines you’re drinking, where they’re grown, how they’re
different to each other. I’m all about decadent local produce, not just wine!
And quality time with those nearest and dearest to you.
From personal experience, it’s much easier to organise a
smaller group of gals (usually under 11), and book a private tour, so you get
the entire experience to yourself!
Some winery tour companies have a set itinerary that they
stick to, and these are the only wineries that they will head to – these can be
great, but, if you want to make your day extra special, you should look into a
custom itinerary – where you get to pick where you want to go!
Head over to www.dslevents.com.au if you’d
like more info!
5. Champagne
Masterclass
If you love bubbles, but aren’t so fussed about wine… why
not host a Champagne masterclass in your own home? We bring a range of 6
different sparklings in, and go through an ‘official’ tasting, and drink
bubbles and have a giggle! You can choose where they’re from, and even the
particular wines if you like! We go through the background of champagne vs
sparkling vs prosecco and explain some of the differences, and demystify some
of that wine jargon.
It’s kind of like bringing a winery tour to you.
4. Gin Please!
We’re all becoming rather fond of this English tipple!
Whether you drink it on the rocks, with tonic, or in a cute cocktail, gin is
back, and here to stay.
There are a huge range of gins that are made right here in
Australia. There are a couple of distilleries in Melbourne that let you take a
sneak peak of their distilling process, and also allow you to taste. But, imagine
if you could collect a range of 6 different gins, and go through a tasting of
them all, in the comfort of your own home? That’s now possible! I’m a
self-confessed alcohol-lover (read; alcoholic), and love to share my knowledge
of the distillation process and tasting process with people. You can now host a
gin masterclass in the comfort of your own home.
Get in contact if you’d like to know more. Chin chin!
3. Grazing Tables
If you haven’t gotten on this, head to your Instagram right
now, and just type ‘grazing tables’ in the search bar. You won’t be
disappointed.
I am a lover of all things food and wine, and when you
present me with massive boards, or beautiful packaged boxes that are just chock
full of oozy cheeses, fabulous meats and antipasta, and delicious little
nibbles, I just about have a ‘When Harry Met Sally’ moment.
There are so many amazing companies that offer an array of
choices for you – meats, cheeses, began, vegetarian, dessert, breakfast, colour
themed… The choice is endless! Pick a style that you like – and get in contact!
This is the easiest way to delegate feeding people to someone else, and it
takes a huge stress out of the day! The girls can nibble and graze, and enjoy
to their heart’s content.
2. Pallet Picnics
Am I the only person who seems to think of Mary Poppins,
when they hear the word ‘picnic’? You know, when she heads off with Bert, and
they find a merry go round and the penguins, and she’s dressed all in white
with a gorgeous hat, and they’re off on a picnic? No? Must just be me.
Pallet picnics are super pretty, and very easy to achieve
yourself! You can DIY your own version at home, or there are other businesses
that specialise in styling and producing a pallet picnic at home, or at a
location!
Sneaky tip: you don’t actually have to have pallets… you can
just do a gorgeous picnic!
I do these too! XD
1. High Tea
Put on your prettiest frock, don a gorgeous hat, or
fascinator, pop those heels on, and head to a decadent High Tea! When it comes
to High Tea, there are a range of options for what you’d like to do – head into
the city and do something fancy like The Windsor, OR, save some dollars, and
book a high tea package with an expert.
When you book with The High Tea Mistress, you’re in super
capable hands. Emma has been doing this for what seems like forever! She’ll
look after all the crockery, cutlery and decadent delights, and can even
provide a tea masterclass for you, where you learn about different teas and how
they’re brewed. With a range of hot and iced teas to select from, I’d say this
is a father fabulous way to spend your hens!
In short, the day is what you want to make of it – but start
to think outside of the ‘stripper and booze’ box. There’s a whole world out
there of amazing things that you can do to celebrate and really reflect what
kind of person the bride to be is.
All the best darlings!
